MBIM members who need to reserve space in the Life Sciences Centre (LSC) can use the LSI room-booking service for seminars, meetings, training sessions, poster sessions, and larger events. The official LSI booking team manages room availability, atrium bookings, and room-rental requirements for eligible spaces in the building.

What you can book
According to the LSI room-booking page, the Life Sciences Centre can support a wide range of events, from smaller seminars and meetings to poster sessions, week-long conferences, and specialized training activities. The page highlights the building as a flexible venue for events ranging from approximately 10 to 1000 attendees.

- Poster sessions and conferences
- Atrium events and larger gatherings
Who manages bookings
Room-booking requests for LSC spaces are handled through the official LSI room-booking process rather than MBIM IT. The LSI team helps match the event with an appropriate venue and provides the official booking path for eligible spaces.
If you are trying to reserve an LSC room, start with the official LSI booking page rather than contacting MBIM IT. MBIM IT does not manage LSC room scheduling.
Important booking notes
- LSI rooms other than the atria are primarily reserved for research activities.
- Other requests, including undergraduate class use, are reviewed case by case.
- LSI resident members can book most rooms themselves, including lantern meeting rooms and seminar rooms.
- West and East Atrium reservations require contact with the official facilities booking process.
- Some Faculty of Medicine rooms in the building are booked through a separate booking path listed on the LSI page.
Fees and extra costs
The official LSI page includes room-rental rates, equipment-rental rates, and event cost notes. Charges can vary depending on the room, the type of event, and whether the event is hosted by eligible UBC Faculty of Science or Faculty of Medicine groups.
- Some events can use LSI rooms at no room-charge, but still need to cover custodial and security costs.
- Non-faculty events may be charged full rental fees.
- Additional costs may apply for security, audio-visual services, catering, table or chair rentals, and teleconferencing equipment.
- The LSI page states that full payment is required no later than 10 business days before the event.
For current pricing, booking restrictions, and room-specific details, always use the official LSI room-booking page. Rates and procedures can change.
